Back On The Air

I’m happy to say I’ll be back on the air this week, if only for a couple of days.

Legendary Chicago radio station WLS has invited me to fill in while their morning team, Don & Roma, is on vacation this Thursday and Friday (March 6-7) from 5-9am CT. If you’re in the area, please listen on WLS 890 AM. Everywhere else, you can hear the streaming audio via the WLS website.

Thanks for your continued support. I’ll keep you posted on other developments soon.

Great News! I will be listing on Thursday and Friday.

GREAT NEWS!! I'll listen on the computer!! Thanks for letting me know.

Beth said...

Good luck-I hope they hire you full time-St.Louis does not know what they are losing!

Brett said...

thanks for the update. I'll listen online. It'll be good to hear your show again. Will you be doing your show from your home in St. Louis, or going to Chicago? You don't need to respond.

But while you are in Chicago, enjoy the food.

My son, recent grad from Mizzou, moved to downtown Chicago. As a foodie, I will visit the end of March, and hit several local spots. Frontera Grill (authenic Mexican, Rick Bayless, chef of the year in the US), Lou Malnatis (pizza), Biily Goat Tavern (cheeseborger, cheesebrger, no fries, cheeps), maybe Superdawg or Portillo's for a hotdog. Can't wait.

Last week, he and his girlfriend went to Tru (Rick Tramonto and Gale Gand). $145 per person. One of top ten restaurant in US. Unbelievable food/service, stupid prices. Probably 15 courses, he said.

So if you are in Chi-town. The food alone will probably cover a handful of future shows.

Good luck

Yes, I'll be slogging through the winter weather to do the shows in the WLS studio in Chicago. And I'm looking forward to the food, too. Thanks!

Just so you know, 1120 on my drive home is not interesting anymore.

Good luck with the Chicago gig, but I hope they don't lure you away from St. Louis. I really hoping someone here picks you up. I really enjoyed your dynamics, funny, serious, intelligent banter as well as some real meaningful dialogue.

Well, I guess since Chicago has the Cubs, they have to gain something from St. Louis. Hope our local radio knuckleheads gobble you up before someone out of town does!

Thanks Paul, We will be listening!

It's not the 5am start -- it's waking up and getting there! [g]

Bob said...

Sounds great! I'll try to check out the streaming audio!

Karen said...

Excellent! I hope we don't lose you to Chicago! Looking forward to streaming it in the a.m.

Good to hear -- just don't let them snag you in Chicago. We want you here. One day last week my husband wanted to know who was on KMOX that afternoon. It turns out he is missing you too -- and I didn't know he had ever listened to you. Wishing you the best.

John said...

Great news! I'll send a heads up to my brother and sister-in-law who live in Chicago.

Roger said...

Thats great to hear. I will be listening. I used to listen to Don and Roma. I had to be at work at 5:00 am, and it was convenient to listen to as I started the early morning work routine at the University of Illinois. I always sided with Roma, as Don was too conservative for me.
Thanks for the update, I hope we will be hearing more from you, as I am having trouble finding Podcasts that are worth listening to.
I have been listening to ex WLS guy Jay Marvin, but for some reason, I can't get his podcast to load up on my mp3, so I listen online some. Also Rick Emerson out in Portland. But, we need Paul Harris back on the air!

Denise said...

Yahoo!!!!! Glad to hear that you will be back on the air - although briefly!!!!! Enjoy it.

Sam said...

I started listening to you three years ago when I was at the police academy - long weeks. On the long drive home on Fridays you were on and I began to look forward to your Friday show each week. The knuckleheads, the Harris Challenge, the regular guests and all the other reasons you became my afternoon radio will be sorely missed. Could have been handled in a more classy manner. With your talent and energy, you'll do well wherever you go.

John said...

Paul,

Congratulations, good luck, and hang in there. You'll be back on the air full time somewhere, I'm sure.

Bill said...

That's great Paul. I will be listening to your streaming broadcasts. Thanks for the update.

Ron said...

You were the only reason that I did listen to KMOX. Hope everything works out for you. Please let us know where you end up. I am a nurse who does home infusion so I am out driving most of the day. So you need to stay in Saint Louis because I can only hear you on local radio. No computer in my car.

Greg said...

Paul-Great news. Perhaps something will come of this for you. Here's hoping!

Dianne said...

Those lucky people in Chicago! Good luck! I know you'll be great. I use to listen to WLS when I lived in Mattoon, IL, which is in the central part of the state.

Matt said...

Sweet! From one booming midwest signal to another. Hope it opens more doors.

Barbara said...

That's great Paul, but I still want you on the air locally. There is literally nothing to listen to anymore. Best of luck to you.

Dave said...

Glad to hear that paul,,,,,, but I would like you to stay in stl...... cubs land? No I know you have to do what your family needs... happy for you but,,,,, if you can stay in stl, and let us enjoy your show... thanks again.........

John said...

Hi Paul!

A heartfelt congratulations to you and your family! Glad to hear you'll be back in the saddle again! I'm only sorry you'll not be here in STL ( I can't get streaming). It's obvious you love what you do and I wish you the best!

Thanks for your update!

Gosh, you're missed!

Steve said...

great news, my pal Dan Proft does political commentary for them, I will be listening online Thursday and from the Hancock Building in the windy city on Friday.

Dave said...

Hi Paul,
Actually, we can hear WLS 890 here in D.C.
BTW, don't miss this opportunity and YOUR name has come up. Last Friday, 105.9 WJZW 'Smooth Jazz' is now jockless with a 'True Oldies' format. Perfect opportunity to come back home to DC and get decent ratings on a morning show. Great hearing you again!

Jim said...

Mr Harris
I knew you would wind up in a bigger market-Cheers to you!I will bet donuts to dollars once they here you and how good of a show you put on you'll wind up as the Main Man at WGN forget WLS.Go up there and give 'em a great week-watch out for the State Police in Springfield though!

David said...

Feeling great for you. As a teenager, living in N. Illinois, I listened to the Beatles for the first time on a tiny transistor radio beaming "WLS Chicago" to my bedroom.

Jeff S said...

Not sure if the signal will get to Pinckneyville, Il but I will be tuning in to try to listen. It will be great to hear you again.

Bob said...

My home town great place to be.

Sarah said...

Yea.....WLS 890 (I used to live in ChiTown!). Be sure to continue keeping your loyal listeners informed!

Michele said...

Have a great time in Chicago! We used to live there. Morning talk radio is HUGE there.

E.R. said...

I will be listing to you Good Luck Paul your St. Louis Buddies are with you.

Mike said...

Paul - - -

Anyway you can get on SIRIUS radio? Better yet back on St. Louis radio?

John said...

I'll check you out

Janice said...

GREAT! At least I'll get some of my much needed "Harris fix."

Sherry said...

I guess I'll have to try and catch you on the streaming audio while I am at work on Thursday & Friday. Hope it works.

What a weather day. If this snow starts getting hot and heavy I am going to be leaving work today. I don't intend to try and drive in the "craziness" and maybe have an accident. No job is worth that!!!

Stay home and stay warm. Enjoy the day looking at it through the windows and cuddle up with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate in front of a warm and cozy fire. That's what I would do.

Warmest regards.

Pat said...

Hopefully you will get back on the air in this area. Hang in there.

Chicago said...

I followed the link to the Chicago station and added it to my favorites. I can listen online. Congratulations.

Patty said...

whoa! WLS ?!?!?! That's a biggie - am glad to hear this - hope more good news comes your way......

Dave said...

Great news ! I plan to try the streaming audio.

I hope all go's well, you have a very strong show.

Kris said...

WLS! Ah, the lost days of my youth listening to Dick Biondi (that's dating me,
right?)!

Anonymous said...

Well there was a guy named Harry Caray who didn't do too bad when he moved to Chicago from STL. Keep your head up and hope all the best.

Rose said...

I will certainly try to tune you in! I miss your "witty banter" and your entertaining guests.
I have no real issues with your replacement, but more politics is not what I'm in the mood for in the afternoon!

KMOX programming leaves a lot to be desired of late, and the list of medical commercials is really depressing. I don't know how many times I've changed the station because of all the "ED" ads.
You were certainly a bright spot in the afternoon, and I will continue sending my lament to the station manager!

Joe said...

Congratulations Paul! I will be listening on line, thanks for the link. Please keep me updated on your employment future in the St. Louis market.

Juli said...

I have alerted my Chicago relatives and they will be listening. It's only a matter
of time before you are snapped up by someone big league.

Teena said...

Oh lucky Chicago. I know you'll be great.

Suzanne said...

I hope you don't have any trouble getting to Chicago. I will try totune in Thursday morning.

I sure do miss hearing you.

Steve said...

Fantastic! Congrats!

Kyle said...

Paul that is GREAT! My grandparents live in Chicago I will def. tell them to toon in, also I will listen to the link of you on the air thanks man!

Kate said...

Paul, I am happy to hear, although too short, that you will be back. I moved to STL 3 years ago from Chicago, so WLS and I are old friends. I will be listening.

Chris said...

We'll be sure to listen to you. Good luck.

Kip in Arcadia, MO said...

Dear Paul,

So cooool.

I listen to Don and Roma regularly from down here in the Ozarks, before the radio signal fades out about 8am.

The subs they have always do at least as well as they--and sometimes better (IMO). Congratulations.

Kathleen said...

Good hear you will be on WLS. I have listen to Don Wade and Roma for almost 22 years.

He can get out of hand and at times.Roma has to rope him in.

Chris said...

Glad to hear it, Paul! I'm originally from Chicago and grew up with the Big 89 in
the R&R 60s. Most of us here in the STL area should be able to hear you in our cars
going to work as the atmospherics are generally good in the AM. We'll be listening.
Hope this leads to a permanent gig!

Pamela said...

Fabulous for you!
We continue to miss you.

Best wishes.

Matt K said...

Good luck Paul. I'm from Chicago and grew up with WLS. I young/old enough to have listened to Steve Dahl and Gary as well as Larry Lujack when I lived there. Man, I miss that kind of fun radio. Radio used to be entertaining, not the soap box it is now. Hard to find the caliber of show like you had on KMOX and those guys had then. BTW, Kevin Matthews used to have me laughing so hard back when I was in college. Ah, the good old days of radio.

Jennifer M. said...

YEAH! I am so happy to hear you on air again :)

Jan said...

It's great to hear you on air again but no offense, I hope this doesn't turn into a
permanent gig since I can't get you in my car. Streaming audio is great but I like
having both options.

Keep up the great work!

Leo said...

Hi Paul,

It was nice hearing you today, I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

JM said...

Paul, Woke up this AM and heard a strange voice and thought now who is this. Heard you talk about your web site and read about you and felt bad for the way the stations do this to listeners. One day your here and the next your gone on explanations given. I wish you lots of luck it's a tough field to be in.

Loved hearing you again. Followed you from KTRs and now in Chicago. What I like about you...you don't take yourself too seriously and don't pretend to know it all from movies to politics.

I always turned KMOX off at 11 am and turned it on at 2 pm...now we have the Rush effect on for 7 hours...and the imitator is not very good.

Good luck..you sound great.

John said...

Welcome to Chicago. I enjoyed listening to you this morning. I hope they let you get a job here, but they have laid a lot of good people the last week, so it is doubtful WLS will remain the powerhouse has been. They are going more and more toward syndication.

hey paul
we're moving to the chicago area this summer hope you get something permanent.
I really enjoyed your show here in St. Louis, but even more hated when kmox broke up the team-you, carol and kevin. thought you guys did a great job together and kept the afternoon time really enjoyable.
good luck, hope to hear you in the windy city!

Alan said...

Paul,

I had a chance to listen to you on Thursday morning on WLS 890 AM.
I'm off work for a few weeks recovering from hernia surgery so I had the opportunity to listen. You sounded good. Chicago would be a good market for you. It seems like traffic and weather together is big up there in the Windy City just like in Saint Louis.

David in Ballwin said...

Broadcast well done, Paul. For me, it was streaming audio while drinking coffee in the AM – that’s a first.

Jim Walsh said...

Good job...hang in there.
