Worth A Link

  • NYTimes tech writer David Pogue goes behind the scenes at tech support and learns some of the ridiculous stuff customers tell them
  • You're not paying $4/gallon for gas yet, but this gas station is already charging $5/gallon
  • Minnesota bars are beating the state's smoking ban by having everyone who comes there be part of a "theatrical production," thanks to a loophole in the law

As a professional computer geek I read several computer magazines each month. One month ComputerWorld published their survey of peeves. "Users" won by a wide margin. The authors pointed out that without users (and their dumb tricks) we would all be out of jobs. I started looking at the silly things I need to fix differently after that. Well except for the computer with a note stuck in the CD-ROM drive. The user thought it would be a good hiding place.
