This morning on WLS/Chicago, I talked with Dave Dellaterza of VoteForTheWorst.com about the "American Idol" judges using their first-ever save to keep Matt Giraud on the show. We also discussed the other contestants -- he wants you to vote for Lil Rounds to keep her around -- and the show's timing problems.
Then we got into a discussion of Susan Boyle, the English woman who became a YouTube sensation this week when the clip of her singing on "Britain's Got Talent" turned her into an instant star. Everyone's saying she is proof that you can't judge a book by its cover, but the fact is that if she couldn't sing, she would have been the target of derision because of the way she looks and her spinster-ish life story.
She wasn't up for this much praise when people couldn't see her a decade ago. That's when Boyle contributed a song to a British charity CD which only sold 1,000 copies (some of which are probably on eBay right now because of the "BGT" viral video). The Daily Record got a copy of her version of "Cry Me A River," which you can hear here.
