The War in Afghanistan

Today on WHAS/Louisville, I talked with Time magazine writer Aryn Baker about her cover story on the US war in Afghanistan. She says the effort is muddled, and quotes an Army commander who says, "We are not going to kill our way out of this war."

Baker explained what has to be done in Afghanistan and how long it'll take to do it, how the people there view America, and how the real threat is next door in Pakistan, where a different branch of the Taliban is threatening the leadership of a nation that's a nuclear power. We also discussed the resurgence of women's rights issues in Afghanistan, where the religious extremists are oppressing women yet again, passing a new law that regulates when and why a wife may leave her home and must accede to her husband's sexual desires.
