Praying They Get It Right

One of the cases the Supreme Court will take up next session is about prayer at public meetings. Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens sued the town of Greece, New York, because the prayers before town board meetings were always Christian. They claimed that a government entity choosing one religion over others violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. A federal court agreed with them, and the town's appeal has made it all the way to SCOTUS.

On my America Weekend show, I discussed the case with Greg Lipper of Americans United For The Separation Of Church And State, which is representing Galloway and Stephens. I asked him why any prayers are allowed at town board meetings, how the practice in Greece compares with the daily benediction in the US Congress, and how to decide what percentage of prayers should come from various religions.
