Sexual Assault In The Military

There were 26,000 reports of unwanted sexual contact in the US military last year, a 35% jump from 2010, and the brass has not been doing all it could to protect the women who serve. This week, there was a Senate hearing on the matter, in which the men in charge were excoriated by Senators McCaskill, Shaheen, Gillibrand, and others, but still don't seem to have a clue how to solve the problem. Today on America Weekend, I spoke with Greg Jacob, policy director for the Service Women's Action Network, which has several proposals about what the military must do about sexual assault in the ranks -- by changing the chain of command.
