A Trophy For Everyone


We have raised a generation of kids who won't know the difference between winning and losing because everyone gets a trophy just for participating. That's very good for the "trophy industrial complex," as Ashley Merryman calls it, but bad for our kids. She joined me on America Weekend to discuss why losing is good for you, how kids keep score even if adults don't, and how nonstop recognition doesn't inspire kids to succeed. Merryman is co-author with Po Bronson of "Top Dog: The Science of Winning and Losing."
